Burning Man 2005
I made (and burnt) my first piece of, er, “art” – well it was really just a painted wooden tent made from hardboard. The thing was I proved that an idea I'd had worked well in the desert. Now I can plan something a little more spectacular (for Nowhere). More of my Burning Man pics from 2005 .

Burning Man Like

• Tim Hunkin? is a true burner if ever there was one! He drew the Rudiments of Wisdom cartoon strip in The Observer for many years and went on to make an unorthodox and sometimes dangerous TV series called The Secret Life of Machines?. A few of his works have inspired projects at Burning Man such as The Disgusting Spectacle and Photoboof. (excerpts now on YouTube) explaining how everyday machines work. He was also involved in at least one of the Albion Fairs in East Anglia which were a great inspiration to me when I was a teen.

Projects for Nowhere – Past, Present and Future
Don't expect to see all of these – I like to think out loud. See Art Projects.

• Roundabout – divided in to 4 sections each one decorated by a different group
• Bar in a box 
• EuroBurners:BeachHut for Nowhere 2005?
• Bender – a simple sleeping structure made from the wood of fruit boxes glued in long strips
• Them Hands? – big paper mache hands
• Solar Oven – I'd look to try cooking some veggy food this way on the playa
• Hand Cart? – like in the westerns when they build railroads. Made from wood and wheelbarrow tyres
• Windmill – setup the Air-X wind generator that I bought in the states last year
• Beach spinner – like you see spinning in the wind on the beach. 3 or 4 of these made from hardboard, painted bright colours and set-up in a row 
• Bamboo Cretan windmill based on this design
• Bamboo flag poles – very simple 3m bamboo poles placed on rebar stakes
• Entrance – a simple frame (bamboo?) with the word “Nowhere” above and perhaps a hanging bell. Think of this like a ranch entrance. Could be floodlit/elwired at night.
