FAQ

What is Nowhere?
Nowhere is a multi-day event based on the principles of radical self expression, radical self reliance, no commerce and leave no trace. It is not a music festival, nor solely an art festival. It is a blank canvas, waiting for you to make of it what you will.

Is Nowhere the same as Burning Man?
Nowhere is based upon the same key principles as Burning Man, but they are separate entities and have different atmospheres.

Is the Nowhere burn the same as Burning Man where we have to be in camps?
You don't have to be in a camp in Burning Man or Nowhere. For the past two years Nowhere has been small enough that the atmosphere feels like one big camp. However, if you want to set up a camp, go for it.

What's this about no money?
Nowhere is a no commerce event. This means that nothing will be on sale during the event, and you are not permitted to bring anything to sell. We encourage you to explore the principles of a barter economy, and to gift away to your heart's content. See the self reliance page.

What about food and water?
You MUST make arrangements to have enough food and water for the duration of the event. Please do not arrive on site expecting other people to feed you. Please see the self-reliance page.

What about camping and survival equipment?
Nowhere takes place on an exposed, windy mountainside. You should have all the necessary equipment to survive in a hostile environment. Note that for the past two years there has been extreme heat during the day. Expect temperatures of 31C/88F and above, minimums of 16C/61F. Relative humidity 48%. Please see the self-reliance page.

So, like, I can make art?
Damn right! Nowhere is, amongst other things, an art festival, and we encourage participants to create and contribute art. See the art projects page for more information.

So all I've gotta do is buy a ticket, and you'll provide me with the best party I've ever been to?
No. Another of Nowhere's central principles is Participation. This means we expect everyone that comes to contribute in some way, and spectating is discouraged.

What exactly does my ticket cover?
Your ticket allows you entry to the event. Its cost goes towards providing the infrastructure of Nowhere. It pays for the toilets, the central structure, and the power required for communal projects. It does not provide you with food, water or camping equipment.

Hold on. I've gotta contribute? But I can't build stuff or make art!
Contribute in any way you can. Give manicures, give presents you've made at home, sing a song, provide a massage service, put on a performance, or join in with a camp. Here are some ideas.

Actually, I do have this idea, but I couldn't do it on my own.
Join the Nowhere List and shout. You might find someone who wants to collaborate with you. You can also find out about projects, post your ideas and connect with other participants on the Nowhere wiki part of this site.

I'd like to help out, but honestly, I have no skills.
Come early and help set up, or stay late and help clear up. There is always work to be done, and a job can always be found for you. Nowhere will not happen without volunteers. Help and a positive attitude will be on hand for those unsure of what to do.

OK, you've convinced me. Where do I sign up?
Contact the volunteering team.

Did you mention Leave No Trace?
Nowhere adheres to the ethos of Leave No Trace, which means that whatever we take to the site must be taken away from the site too. You are PERSONALLY responsible for every single thing you take onto the site. Rubbish must be taken away with you.

Please bear in mind that Leave No Trace doesn't just mean picking up the odd bit of rubbish. Once the event finishes on Sunday, we have to take down all the structures, pack up all the stuff on site, store it all, and then clear the site of any stray MOOP (Matter Out Of Place). There's a fair bit of work to be done after the party's over, and we need all the help we can get. Please consider whether you could stay an extra day to help with some of the take down effort after the event has finished.

Can I bring my fire toys?
Unfortunately there are very strict constraints regarding fire in Spain in the summer. Please contact the crew directly with any questions regarding fire.

I'm thinking of bringing my 96 year-old mother who has epilepsy and a dickie heart. Your medical team will take care of her if anything happens, right?
Nowhere takes place on an isolated site, on an exposed mountainside. Our safety crew have limited equipment. You are responsible for your own safety and well-being at all times during the event. Our crew is available to assist, however, you are solely responsible for your health. Anyone with specific health concerns should contact the Safety team prior to the event ().

Do I have to pay in Euros?
We'd prefer it as our expenses are in Euros. See the Tickets page for details.

Can I bring a truck?
The track to the site is not paved so please contact us for advice.

How do I get my stuff to Spain?
Join the Nowhere List and ask around to see if anyone else is going from your area. You may be able to rent a truck together, or have your stuff shipped.

Can I use a video camera?
Yes you can. You need to register your camera once you get onsite and obtain a Nowhere Media Tag.
Make sure you've read the the Nowhere Film Video Guidelines.

Will my phone work on site?
Yes, but we would prefer for you to turn it off. We'd much rather leave the real world behind for a few days.

Will there be a Spanish contact number for Nowhere published?
Yes, there will be a couple of mobile numbers sent out as part of an info sheet to all participants.

Where can I buy...?
The nearest village to the site has a a few small shops and a bank. Larger Supermarkets and DIY stores can be found in Zaragoza.

Can I bring my kids?
Children are welcome, however, Nowhere is NOT a child orientated event and you should read the Kids FAQ before ordering tickets.
